Open-source Tools in R for Landscape Ecology

Abstract Purpose of Review Landscape ecology, the study complex interactions between landscapes and ecological processes, has hugely benefited from increase in widely available open-source software recent years. In particular, R programming language provides a wealth community developed tools for landscape ecology. Recent Findings this paper, we examine existing packages downloading, processing visualisation spatial data, as well those specifically analysis. Additionally, outline results survey users within ecology community. Summary We found that ecologists are generally satisfied with functionality , they continually further developing available. Suggested future developments include improvement computation performance; additional methods characterisation such surface metrics; advanced, accessible tools.
